Andy West asked:

If you are looking for a golf career, but are afraid of being lost in the low-paying, low-prestige end of the industry, pay close attention to this: While it is true that there are an abundance of such jobs, there are also many more prestigious golf jobs for talented, devoted golf enthusiasts.

Many people believe that in order to pursue a golf career, they will have to be content with low-end industry jobs. Before you worry that you will spend your entire career as a golf shop cashier or in food service at the golf club, however, consider these seven exciting careers.

7: Trick Shot Artist. Imagine a golf career in which you get paid to goof around. Trick shot artists make their living with a combination of golf skills and a knack for entertainment. In this career, you would spend your time choreographing and practicing astonishing or entertaining stunts, and then get paid to show off your bag of tricks in front of an audience. There’s no better way to have work feel like play!

6: Golf Journalist or Photographer. With a career in golf journalism or photography, you could get paid to attend golf events. Golf journalists and photographers cover tournaments and other events, and their articles can be syndicated nationwide, depending on the popularity of the event. People who can write intelligently and expertly on golf are in demand, as well as those who know what photographs are important to get and how to get them. If you really know your golf, but you also enjoy writing or photography, try doing both with this fabulous golf career.

5: Golf Broadcaster or Commentator. Like with golf journalists and photographers, those who enter this golf career are required to know the game like the back of their hand. Many people who watch golf do not fully understand the game, so they rely on broadcasters and commentators to tell them what is going on, in addition to making any pertinent comments about the game. Golf broadcasters and commentators also need to have excellent speaking voices and plenty of charisma. These qualities are also found in those who pursue high-visibility careers such as news casting and entertaining.

4: Tournament and Event Planner. You will be able to tell people that you put together popular golf tournaments. Event planners are important in the golf industry. Think of all the major and minor tournaments in the golf industry, as well as innumerable other events, and you will see that this golf career offers job security as well as bragging rights.

3: Caddie. Believe it or not, caddies are a big deal in the realm of professional golf. A caddie is a pro golfer’s right-hand man, knowledgeable about the game and able to anticipate and even recommend a player’s next move. Because the role of a caddie is so important, it provides the opportunity for an astonishingly successful golf career. Good caddies are highly sought after, and the best may even be asked to caddie for top golfers during major tournaments.

2: Golf Player Manager. A golf player’s manager is an important person. The manager provides a buffer between the player and the rest of the world, protecting the player from bad business deals and rabid fans alike. A manager needs to have a knack for knowing what makes money (and what doesn’t), as well as strong negotiating skills. Some managers also handle the PR aspect of pro golf; those who do will need to have a strong connection with the media, and a sense for how to encourage good publicity. However, there is little that is more rewarding than managing a successful pro golfer.

1: Professional Golfer. It probably won’t surprise you that the number one prestigious golf career is being a professional golfer. Pro golfers get a lot of attention in our society: They are interviewed on TV and radio, profiled in magazines, covered in newspapers, and photographed constantly. Television stations broadcast their games, sports experts write opinion columns on their careers’ promise, and debate the quality of their performance. Professional golf is above and beyond the most visible career in the industry, and as such is typically the most sought after as well.

If you are looking for a golf career, don’t think that you have to choose between being a pro golfer and working on the golf course maintenance crew. There are many desirable careers in the golf industry. Next time someone tells you you’ll never make it as a golfer, be prepared to rattle off all of the prestigious careers in the industry, starting with these seven.

Mixing Tradition And Development At The Ballybunion Golf Club - The Old Course

Edwin Shackleford asked:

When it comes to the ideal golf vacation spots in Ireland, the Southwest area is riddled with amazing golf courses filled with great links and stunning views. In these parts you will see Ireland’s most sought after golf course all eager to line up for some tee time, the Ballybunion Golf Club, particularly its old course.

Many popular names in the world of golf have experienced the wondrous allure of Ballybunion and have continually used it as a warm up course to unwind and relax before The Open. Names like Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and Tom Watson has registered in its log book and has provided great reviews and comments to this wondrous and mesmerizing Irish golf vacation spot.

Being the millennium captain of the Ballybunion Golf Club, Tom Watson said that it is one of the best and most beautiful tests of links he has played in, having played there since 1981.

Here in the old golf course, you will find very challenging links where the winds are constant factors and the land is surrounded by the captivating view of the Atlantic.

Opened in August 18, 1893, the Ballybunion Golf Club has had its shares of ups and downs. In its early days, the Ballybunion Golf Club did not enjoy the popularity it does today and has fallen into financial oblivion. Its first 8 years reeled the course to its all time low and was soon revived only by the changing of the officers of the club.

As more developments and land links were laid out, the reputation of the Ballybunion Golf Club grew and grew. By 1926, the course had plans to extend to a full 18 holes, barely a year after, those plans were realized. Its national level of recognition started in 1932 when the Irish Ladies Championship was held there. Five years after, Irish Mens Close Amateur Championship followed suit.

Its first most significant level of competition came at 1957 when the course was chosen as the venue for the Irish Professional Championship. Soon after, waves of other competitions and golf organizations recognized its high quality links and have given it high accolades.

After more than 60 years, the Ballybunion Golf Club finally got the recognition it so rightly deserves and things were never quite the same. Golfers now come in droves from all over the world to experience what the lucky Irish people have had for more than a century now. The Ballybunion Golf Club would always be recognized as Ireland’s greatest golf vacationing spot.

But aside from its majestic and amazing rolling dunes, and the mesmerizing backdrop set by the Atlantic Ocean, the tradition and culture that has made Ballybunion Golf Club what it is today is what keeps the people coming in.

Plus, it has world class amenities that can cater to the needs of so many golfers from all over the world. There you would find a newly built clubhouse that has a dining room that can seat 120 persons, two bars and some very relaxing lounge areas. There is also a Pro Golf Shop that carries every golfing needs that you may have. Also, being a championship golf course, you will be able to find some practice facilities such as; Putting Greens, A Sand Bunker Practice facility, Driving Range, and a Chipping Green.

Ballybunion Golf Club is located at Sandhill Road., Ballybunion, Country Kerry, Ireland. For the greatest golf vacation spot in Ireland, this is a century old choice for the pros.

Golf on a Budget

Saturday, March 21st, 2009
golf shop
Lee Collins asked:

I know what you’re thinking - golf on a budget! Can there be such a thing? Well, it is possible, if you take a balanced, objective look at the strategies used in marketing golf products.

Case in point - I just interviewed a local golf shop owner today. We were talking about the new golf balls, and he was telling me that representatives from different companies send him golf balls to use, hoping that he’ll recommend them to his customers.

Well, he said he’s tried just about everything, and in his opinion, they all play about the same now. Picking up a box of 12 Titleist balls, he said, “This one is probably the best.” They cost $24.99 for the dozen. Then he laughed and picked up another box. “But this one is our best seller.”

The box was priced $44.99 for the dozen. I looked surprised. He shook his head and said, “It’s all hype. People think that if the balls cost double, they’re bound to play better.”

Now we have the new hybrid ironwoods. Are they really going to change your game that much? Or is it all a part of the marketing pitch?

I heard one marketer say that since the golf market was so saturated, he priced his clubs at three times the price of anyone else’s. And he sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth. The clubs weren’t any more expensive to make than other clubs. It was just a “market test”. And folks bought like crazy.

Since no two people play golf the same - and everyone has an individual physique and swing - a product that adds distance for one player may not help another player at all.

Think about something you do very well that requires a piece of equipment. You’re the expert in this area. Should everyone who attempts your job then buy the exact same equipment as you have? Will that mean they’ll be able to do the job better or as well as you?

Food for thought, isn’t it? I enjoy gardening, and have a lovely flower garden. But I only have one or two garden tools that are considered the best. The other things I use because that’s what I’ve always used.

So just because one golf pro buys one kind of ball or club doesn’t mean that it’s the best for you.

The sales pitches that swear you’re going to add 30 yards and never hit another slice entice us to shell out the big bucks. But if you’re careful and have a healthy dose of skepticism, you’ll save both time and money in the long run.

Remember, in the golf world, just because a product is more expensive, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily any better.

How to Choose a Golf Bag

Sunday, March 15th, 2009
golf shop
Mike Robinson asked:

If you are going to be serious about playing golf, your golf bag is an important area you should not skimp on. If you ride in a cart most of the time, the importance of a golf bag is diminished, but if you are going to carry your clubs, you want a bag that makes a pleasure.

There are varieties of golf bags. A tour bag is the giant leather model you probably have seen professionals on TV. It has lots of big pockets to carry a full rain-suit and any other extra goodies. A typical tour bag could weight more than 50 pounds.

The next size down from a tour bag is a cart bag. Cart bags are not quite as big as tour bags, but they are a little bulky for the average golfer who is going to carry clubs and play at the same time. These bags are usually made of leather and designed to be used on a ride cart.

If you play and carry the clubs at the same time, you may consider a travel or carry bag. A travel or carry bag is much smaller and lighter than a full size bag. A carry bag can fit all of your clubs and some small accessories. Most carry bags are made from plastic and nylon.

Carry bags vary in size, quality, and price. You can buy a tiny, three-quarters-size carry bag for a child, or you can get a deluxe model with plenty of pockets and a special backpack-type strap that goes over both shoulders. You can find golf bags for $60 at discount golf shops, but these at low end.  You get what you pay for. They only have the very basic features and a few pocket and often they aren’t very comfortable to carry. If you’re only going to play once or twice in a year, then this kind of bag is sufficient. If you’re willing to pay more than $100, you can get a high-quality, light carry bag. It is easy to take clubs in and out and will stand on its own when you put it down.

Of course, the more you’re willing to spend, the more elaborate the bags can get. The backpack strap is a great feature that moves the weight from one shoulder and spreads it out over both. It makes carrying your bag much more comfortable.

When you’re looking for a bag, keep in mind the features that will be most important to you and make sure the bag has them. If you have lots of little accessories that you like to carry with you on the course, you’ll need a bag with lots of pockets. If you like to carry your street shoes in your bag as you play, you’ll need a bag with at least one relatively large pocket. Again, you can get as many features on a bag as you like, but at some point you start to sacrifice room and size for weight. A carry bag is designed for to just that, a bag that’s easy to carry.

Give Your Back a Break on the Golf Course

Sunday, March 8th, 2009
golf shop
Boris Tomson asked:

Give your Back a Break on the Golf Course

Are you a novice golf player that wants to take your game to the next level? Are you tired of lugging your golf bag around the course? Well, there are several options available and it really depends on how much you?re willing to spend. Golf carts and golf caddie carts come in a wide variety to help you take some weight off your shoulders and enjoy your game more.Visit to : http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

Most golf courses can rent you a caddie or cart but that can add up especially if you plan on playing frequently. You also will feel better owning something that you can call your own and personalizing it. And let?s face it; it can also be a status thing so you can impress your golfing buddies.

Let?s start with golf carts since that is what the pro player wants. These come in a variety of sizes and options. There are gas powered ones which are better for larger courses since they don?t rely on recharging but they have a downside. Gas powered carts can be noisy and emit exhaust which can be bothersome to you and other players on the course. Most choose an electric golf cart since they are quiet and since golf courses provide charging stations. If you?re planning on doing a lot of driving then electric carts can be purchased with longer battery life.

Golf carts range in size and brand. There are reputable brands and some that are not as common but in any case most come with a warranty. If you have deep pockets and you really want something luxurious (and to impress your friends) there are even carts made by Rolls Royce and Jeep. These kinds of carts can be customized with many different options and are more for status purposes than for utilitarian purposes.

If you don?t want to invest that much money into a cart but still want something to help with lugging your equipment around the course then think about getting a caddie cart. These range in price from a very basic model at about 60 dollars to ones with many features upwards of 1000 dollars. Features vary but many are again just bells and whistles and not really to improve your game. Some come with a water dispenser which can come in handy while you?re out on the course during your golf vacations.http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

Golf caddies and carts can be found by shopping around on line or at pro golf shops. Before you buy a cart, make sure you take it for a test drive. There is sure to be a well stocked shop if you live in a city that has several golf courses but it?ll be more challenging if you don?t. Also ask other golfers who have carts for their recommendations and check out reviews online

If you?re serious about golf and don?t want to break your back then look into purchasing a golf cart or caddie cart. It will make your game more enjoyable. http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

James B asked:

I am looking for a Los Angeles golf pro shop that lets you try clubs out on their driving range before buying. Not just hitting the club inside the pro shop itself. I am located near LAX and also head out to Santa Barbara a lot if there is one in between. In particular, I am looking to test teh best of the hybrid clubs. Thanks for your help.

Hi, The glow plug thread is gone and glow plug stuck inside! I damaged the thread trying to replace glow plugs mysef.
My MAIN Dilemma: Should i take it to an engine machine shop or VW dealership?
Also, The car starts perfectly. Can i drive while one of the glow plugs is stuck inside just a little loose? what if I disconnect the harness just from this 4th plug? will it mean the 4th cylinder will not work (which perhaps is a good thing since you do not want the stuck inside plug to Fly out like a rocket(?) OR: perhaops it is good if it flies out - it will no longer be stuck(?) however i think glow plugs just work to start the engine, therefore correct me if i am wrong but the 4th engine will start working thanks to the other cylinders(?). borrom line, is there a safe quick check/method to decide if i can drive like this to the mechanic? otherwise i will have to tow it, it is currently in my parking space. Ladies Golf Shirts: a Buying Guide for Sports and Golf Shops

Thursday, March 5th, 2009
golf shop
nicole minor asked:

Golf is an immensely enjoyable sport, one which is rapidly growing in popularity worldwide. Many ladies are choosing golf over other activities because golf combines exercise with lively competition and an unparalleled social component. Golf serves a variety of functions. Some people play for the exercise or to learn a new skill, and others use the eighteen holes as an opportunity to network with other business executives. Either way, it is important to keep your sports store or gym stocked with an extensive range of men’s and ladies golf shirts, allowing the players to look as impressive as their golf game.

Ladies golf shirts are available in a great many colors and styles, which change with the latest trends and fashions. All of our ladies golf shirts can be easily customized using heat transfer or embroidery, and they can be purchased in a stylish range of colors. Golf players are exceptionally proud to belong to a fantastic golf club, which is why customized ladies golf shirts are such a popular choice.

How to Choose Ladies Golf Shirts for Your Shop

Here are some points to consider when purchasing ladies golf shirts:

- Affordability: Golf can become an expensive game, especially if you seem to be perpetually losing balls in the woods or the water. Our ladies golf shirts are affordably priced and designed to impress, which helps your bottom line. Most women want a selection of quality ladies golf shirts in their wardrobe, so it is important to consider the individual price of the clothing you supply in your store.

- Color: Between the clubs, the strokes, and the bunkers, there is enough to concentrate on during a round of golf without worrying about ladies golf shirts. Women come with an infinite variety of skin tones and body shapes, which means that your store should aim to provide them with plenty of choices when it comes to color. Our ladies golf shirts are available in at least six different shades, and five different sizes.

- Style: Depending on body shape and personal preference, women want to find ladies golf shirts in a flattering style. There are polo-type shirts with a button up neck, shirts with Y necks, knit shirts, and different density fabrics to choose from. In all, we offer over ten different styles of high quality ladies golf shirts.

- Features: Most women do not want to wear ladies golf shirts that make them feel hot, wet, and sweaty on the golf course. Our range of ladies golf shirts have side vents to keep the wearer cool, double hems for durability, and most of our range is made from fabric which wicks sweat away from the skin. An antimicrobial agent has been added to the fabric of our ladies golf shirts to keep the wearer feeling and smelling fresh.

Ladies golf shirts really make a statement about the wearer. Though different ladies golf shirts are in fashion each season, it is important to keep your store well-stocked with stylish universal clothing in as many colors and styles as possible.
