Andy West asked:

An uncertain economy can give a bleak outlook on the future for everyone. Soaring gas and grocery prices do not always mean increases in salary for many workers. While many companies are axing away precious jobs, there is always a bright side to the scenario: some industries are actually thriving despite failing economies. One of these industries is the sports industry, particularly golf. Golf is one of the world’s most famous sports today and professional golf careers will surely come in bounty in the coming years.

When we talk about golf, what easily comes to mind is Tiger Woods. Anybody in the modern world who does not know Tiger Woods must be living under a rock. Tiger Woods is one of the top paid athletes today. Accordingly, he earned about $122 million from winnings and endorsements in 2007.

Now, one may ask why he and other people having professional golf careers earn such ridiculously large amounts of money. It is because golf is a sport of global magnitude. Golf tournaments draw millions of spectators from all over the world. Sponsorships for a golf tournament come from top multinational companies fueling millions of dollars in advertisements.

It has been calculated that there are almost 32,000 golf courses in the world today. Around half of this figure is in the United States. Other countries with the most number of golf courses are the first world countries such as New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, England and Sweden.

According to surveys, there has been an increase in specialized golf holidays around the world. Many travel holidays have been focused on golf resulting in drastic development of high class resorts with integrated golf courses catered to upper class clientele. This is indeed good news for those who are dreaming of getting into professional golf careers.

The billion dollar golf industry employs people for positions such as director of marketing and communications, golf shop assistant, club fitter, starter or golf cart maintenance personnel among others.

But like any other specialized jobs, getting into a professional golf career starts with getting the relevant training and experience. There are specialized programs for different kinds of professional golf careers. There are even golf academies that offer short term courses in golf management.

An educational investment into golf training definitely means a sure return of investment. Professional golf careers are niche careers. There is yet no saturation of golf professionals in the current labor market. And the great thing about enrolling in a golf management center is that many academies offer job placements after completion of a course.

Getting into professional golf careers has tremendous perks. Aside from getting high salaries, one can interact with rich and famous personalities. One can also work in a clean and fancy environment. In other words, one can experience the life of the rich and famous.

It is not too late for those who want to switch professions. Age is never an issue. And since in most cases, the work place is in the outdoors, a professional golf worker will work in an environment that can enhance physical fitness and fresh air environment.

Many people who have worked in golf management have become good golf players afterwards. They see players everyday and see the techniques used and learn them. Some can even interact with players or use the facilities for practice games during free periods.

We can never know the future but it is not unlikely that working as a golf management staffer may be a stepping stone towards becoming a famous and highly paid golf athlete in the future.

What to Look For When Buying Used Golf Clubs

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Guy Phillips asked:

Golfing is one of those sports that you either love or hate. The people who hate golf are mostly those that have never golfed and just don’t get it. Once you have actually golfed and feel the excitement of playing 18 holes and actually ending with a decent score, then you know what it is to love golf.

If you’re a new golfer or just someone who is looking to save some money, buying used golf clubs can really save you a bundle. With so many places to my buy used clubs, you can sometimes find real good name brand clubs at a fraction of what they cost new.

Take a look at the club head for signs of wear before you buy it. A worn spot on the club head where the ball strikes will prevent the ball from making good contact and affect the performance. Grooves that have defined edges on the face of the club show that the club still has some life left in it and has not been completely worn out.

If the shaft of the clubs have worn areas or indentations, this could weaken the club and cause it to break. Look down the shaft length wise and see if it has been bent or twisted. You also want to test the torque of the shaft by twisting the grip and the head in opposite directions. If the torque is solid, you should not be able to twist it far. If you can easily twist it, then it’s a sign of weakness in the shaft and you should avoid that club.

Choosing between a graphite and metal club should be determined by your own preference. What type of club you play better with should be the type you choose. Each person has their own favorite and when buying used clubs, you need select the ones that are best suited to you.

After you purchase used clubs, you might need to re-grip the shaft. You can buy re-gripping material in a golf shop and perform the task yourself in about 10 to 15 minutes per club. The process is very easy to do and even the most technically challenged person can do it. It will be worth the effort and give you a better grip on the club when you play.

Alloy clubs such as aluminum are great clubs but for buying used they might not be such a good choice. Alloys are more susceptible to wear than those made from metal. Alloys can be a bit cheaper to buy but since your buying them used, try and stick with metal clubs.

Today’s golfers enjoy the game of golf for many different reasons. Whether it’s the rolling green golf courses, being in the outdoors surrounded by nature or just the insatiable urge to better your score from the last game, the game of golf can really turn into a healthy addiction.

Buy used clubs is a great way for a person to save a lot of money on clubs and instead use the savings to pay for greens fees.

The Ideal Golf Vacation Locations

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Joe Kensingtons asked:

So you love to golf and want to take a golfing vacation? Before you plan your next golf retreat consider the following golf resorts. Each of these locations ranked highest in the best places to visit for the golf enthusiasts.

One wonderful area to visit for a golf vacation is Hawaii. The six islands that make up Hawaii seem to be perfect for golfers. Hawaii also features a perfect golfing season, which means year round in Hawaii. This is why many golfers and golf course architects visit the six islands each year. There are many wonderful golf resort courses found on the islands of Maui, Oahu and Kauai Islands.

Consider Maui as one of the best places to golf:

Some of the most impressive golf courses can be found on the island of Maui. Here you will enjoy golf courses with sweeping views of the coastline and neighboring islands. However, during the winter months you can often stop humpback whales swimming along the coast while taking your swing. Hawaii is truly a paradise for golfers with spectacular scenes ranging from mountains to ocean with sloping golf course terrains. However, this popularity also makes it difficult to book a golf vacation in Hawaii and you will need to be prepared for an expensive price.

Another location that ranks high with golf enthusiasts is Southern California. Here you will find golf courses that have hosted some historic golf events. With a combination of beauty and elegance, California golf courses are perfect for International tournaments or just a relaxing round of golf. Three of the most celebrated golf resorts in California including the Double Tree Golf Resort, Mt. Woodson and Pala Mesa Golf Resort. In California you can find remarkable golf resorts that range from mountain to ocean side courses depending on your scenic choice.

Michigan can also be a great place to golf:

Another excellent summer golf destination is Michigan. Here you will find over a thousand golf resorts and courses that offer you excellent service which ranks Michigan twelfth on the list of golfing destinations in the world. Four of the top golf courses in American can be found in Michigan. You will find lush fairways surrounded by vistas and blue waters that aren’t found anywhere else.

Lastly there is Florida. Florida is home to many spectacular golf courses and resorts. In addition, Florida offers a number of pro-golf shops, driving ranges, golf putting greens, bars and restaurants. Over the years many golf tournaments have been held in Florida, many of which are PGA and LPGA Tours. The golf courses in Florida are only matched by their excellent accommodations and fabulous dining choices. Everything you want in an excellent golf vacation can be found in Florida.

Some of the best first-rate golf resorts can be found in Myrtle Beach which is often known as the golfing capital of the world. Nowhere else in the world can you find more golf courses in one area? However, if you want a true test of your golfing abilities then there is only one place, Ireland. If you want excitement, rugged challenges and beautiful vistas along with excellent amenities then you need to travel to Ireland for you next golfing vacation.

q_and_a asked:

In terms of playing golf, shopping and off to the theme parks. We were planning (my family and I) to visit Gold Coast, Australia from the 2nd to the 7th of February. Is that a good time?
Well, I did some research and it says that school will be back in February. So… I think it’s appropriate to take a holiday in terms of lack of crowds etc.
