2003 VW Golf- front end struts squeaking on uneven road?

it’s not loud, but a quieter rubber-to-metal sqeaking sound, when the front suspension moves up and down. You can push down on the hood and rock the front end to make it sqeak. It is intermittant, depending on heat or humidity. I brought it into the shop once and it was silent at that time… is this something that can be lubricated?
