Why are golf and tennis usually linked together?

I always see “golf and tennis” pro shops and stuff. Also, many people who play tennis play golf, etc, etc. These sports don’t really have anything to do with each other, so I wonder why they are always mentioned together?

The only sports you can get older folks to spend big bucks on fancy irons rackets and other gear.

Country Clubs. That’s where you used to have to go to play both.

Whether golf is a sport or a game will never be settled. Remember the Olympics are referred to as “games” and there are people who consider “fly fishing” as a sport. Either way golf and tennis have traditionally cater to the same group of people: older, more affluent, white. Today, of course, no one can deny that people like Tiger or the Williams sisters are cool.
